Karoo

The Karoo is a semi-desert which is geographically devided into the Great Karoo and Little Karoo. The Great Karoo is a highland with large valleys and high mountain peaks while the Little Karoo is a more glowing landschape with smaller valleys and mountain peaks.

The Great Karoo is situated north of the N1 in the Western Cape and Bloemfontein in the north (Free State) The little Karoo starts 120 km north of Cape Town in Worcester and reaching Oudtshoorn in the east. 

   

Hermanus

Hermanus is a cosy fishermen town on less than two hours driving from Cape Town. The Walker Bay attracts every year hundreds of Southern Right Whales. Boat trips to approaching the whales from closeby are available.

Northern Cape

This province is the largest province in South Africa, but also the least populated.  The mighty Orange River is the lifeline running through an area that becomes desert-like on the fringes of the Karoo and the Kalahari.  The Kalahari Gemsbok National Park is one of South Africa's major attractions and shares an unfenced border with Botswana, letting the game roam freely between the two countries.  To the North of the Orange River, where South Africa borders Botswana, there are sparsely wooded Acacia savannah and grasslands.

Madikwe Game Reserve

Beautiful 70.000 ha nature reserve near the Botswana border and only 50 - 25 km from its captial Gaborone. The savannah bushveld flows over into the Kalahari. Big-5 and malaria free.

   

Addo

The Addo National Elephant Park is one of the biggest nature conservation projects in the world.

After widespread hunting in the 1800's and an extermination program in the 1920's the Addo National Elephant Park was proclaimed in 1931 as a sanctuary for the remaining 11 elephants. This herd has build up to over 400 making it one of the densest populations of the giant herbivores in the world.

   

Pilanesberg & Sun City

The Pilanesberg National Park is a huge volcanic crater rising 600 meter above the savannah planes.

The Sun City Casino and Resort offers 4 hotels in a different price category, all within 2.5 hours driving from Johannesburg.

   

Johannesbrug and Pretoria

Two major cities in the Gauteng Province. Johannesburg is much used as a stop over on the day of arrival. Pretoria is renamed as Tshwane while the historical city centre remains Pretoria.

   

Soweto

Soweto can be visited on a very safe way. Many people are horrified by the idea of visiting a township. Soweto can be visited with a local guide giving you an unforgettable experience.

Diepkloof, a rich residential suburb of Soweto is in very strong contrast with the poverty of people living in the hostels which were build in the past to accommodate male workers or the people living in the shags. Durban

One of South Africa's largest cities. Durban offers an interesting cultural mix of Zulu, English and Indian. The largest population Indians outside India live in this city. Visitors can sense immediately the Eastern atmosphere. The city is also the Mecca for South African beach tourism. Eastern Cape
